CONASA ÁGUAS DE ITAPEMA: 17 YEARS INVESTING IN THE CITY´S DEVELOPMENT

Itapema stands out among the best-assisted municipalities with potable water distribution and sewage treatment systems

Conasa Águas de Itapema celebrates in July 17 years of investments in the sanitation of the city. With rates above the national average in water supply and sewage treatment, Itapema started to attract even more business to the point of being considered, in the June ranking of the FipeZap portal, the most valued residential square meter in the country.

On July 8, 2004 the Companhia Águas de Itapema started its operations in the city with the challenge of supplying treated and quality water to all the fixed and floating population that suffered from the lack of regular water distribution, mainly during the summer seasons, and to start the implementation of sewage collection and treatment services, inexistent until then.

With continuous investments, technical and committed to managing the quality of operations and the environment, the Company has changed the reality of Itapema. The construction of Water Treatment Plants, reservoirs and raw water reservoir lagoons solved the supply problems and guaranteed treated water throughout the year to 100% of the urban population.

The sewage collection and treatment system has been expanded year by year and now serves 90% of the municipality's population. The investments have already totaled R$ 266 million. For the sewage system, 37 km of collecting mains were recently built in the Jardim Praia Mar and Morretes districts, and the Morretes Sewage Treatment Plant was expanded and modernized.

The water system gained last year another treatment plant with a capacity to produce 125 liters per second and new treated water reservoirs with a storage capacity of 7 million liters, besides the expansion of the raw water reservoir by another 200 million liters.

County´s positioning

Itapema stands out among the best-attended municipalities with drinking water distribution and sewage treatment system. While the attendance rate in Brazil is 83.62% for treated water, Itapema attends 100% of its urban population. Regarding sewage, only 53% of Brazilians have this service. Itapema treats 90% of the sewage collected.

A few municipalities in Brazil have reached this index. In the Southern region, the portion of the population with sewage collection is 46.3%, a percentage even lower than the national average. And among the 100 largest cities in the country, only one third reach or surpass the 90% mark in sewage treatment.

The municipalities with water supply and sewage treatment networks guarantee health to the population by promoting the reduction of diseases, infant mortality, and a higher schooling rate, which will reflect in a more productive future.

Among the economic benefits, the positive impact on real estate valuation is significant, with a strong reflection on tourism. In 2020, Itapema had the second highest real estate valuation in the country. This movement means a greater flow in the local economy, boosting job generation, encouraging entrepreneurship, and increasing public revenue.
