The county is among the 20 best in Brazil, according to the Brazilian Association of Sanitary and Environment Engineering (ABES).

The ABES ranking for the 2018 Universalization of Sanitation, issued on March 29, announced the Brazilian cities with the best performance towards the universalization of basic sanitation for which the Sanitation Law and the Basic Sanitation Plan (Plansab) established targets to be met until 2033.

Based on recent numbers submitted to the National System and Sanitation Information by almost two thousand counties, the city of Salto is placed among the most efficient in the country. Present in the top ranking category, “Towards Universalization”, Salto is in the 19th position among the 234 largest - with more than 100 inhabitants - surveyed counties.

The average score for the category, composed only by counties from the North and Southeast was 496.05 points, considering that only 29 of the evaluated counties were above 49 points, the target established for the category. As for the Southeastern region, Salto is in the 14th position among 23 counties. The ranking took into consideration the following indicators: water supply, sewage collection, sewage treatment, solid residues collection and adequate destination of solid residues.

Sewage treatment by CONASA Sanesalto got the maximum score (100 points), as well as collection of solid residues and adequate destination of solid residues. County water supply and sewage collection services got 98% and 97.31%, respectively.

In November 2018, CONASA announced an index of 98% for sewage treatment, an inexistent service up to 2017. Investments made by the Company for almost 12 years resulted in the construction of a Water Treatment Plant with a tertiary system and 11 lift platforms, placing the city among the elite of Brazilian counties regarding basic sanitation.
