CARAGUÁ WITH 87% OF SMART LED LIGHTING

Average reduction in energy consumption was around 53%

Caraguá Luz, a street lighting concessionaire from Caraguatatuba/SP, celebrates investments made in the installation of 21.418 smart LED lights, corresponding to 87% of the city´s lighting system. The county´s system grew above the expected, and currently counts with 24.608 points of light.

Caraguá Luz, administered by Conasa, the first street lighting Public-Private Partnership in the State of São Paulo and the second in the country, has been in operation for 5 years. The Concession agreement included the modernization, expansion, operation and maintenance of 19.987 points of street lighting.

In five years’ time, the city gained 3.425 new points of light to meet its vegetative growth and the repressed demand, especially from the SP-055 (BR 101) highway marginal roads, in the mountain stretch between Olaria and Massaguaçu and the new neighborhoods, where an important land regularization program is being implemented. As a result, average reduction in energy consumption was around 53%.

The concessionaire is waiting for the inclusion of this additional demand in the agreement to conclude the city´s modernization project, since the need to meet the needs of this backed up demand is causing a delay in the modernization of some areas and in the provision of services to new neighborhoods around the city. The project will bring benefits to Morro de Santo Antônio, Morro do Camaroeiro, the Rio Claro Road, highway SP 055 between Cocanha and Ubatuba, and several neighborhoods around the city.

The conclusion of the modernization project will take place after some financial- economic adjustments in the agreement, whose terms are under analysis by the City Hall.
