CONASA EXPANDS AND AUTOMATES ITAPEMA´S SEWAGE TREATEMENT PLANT

Project will be concluded in April 2021, increasing treatment capacity

The Sewage Treatment Plant of Morretes, in Itapema already counts with a new Pre-Treatment system, fully automated, responsible for removing coarse solids, sand, oils and greases, providing an effluent with better quality for the next treatment stages.

ETE expansion works are proceeding rapidly to implement new operational technologies, which will bring more efficiency to the treatment of the effluents such as activated sludge systems, decantation, sludge dehydration and disinfection, thus increasing current treatment capacity from 250 liters per second to 450 liters per second.

This activated sludge system shows high efficiency in removing organic matter, being the accelerated organic matter decomposition done by aerobic bacteria. After this stage, the effluent passes through a decantation system where the solid part – excessive sludge – separates from the liquid part and is directed to a specific treatment in a new dehydration system. On the other hand, the liquid part, formed by the treated sewage, will go through the disinfection system, to later return to the environment.
