Environmental commitment: Via Brasil BR-163 joins social and environmental impact campaign to collect used oil

Via Brasil BR-163, the Conasa group company responsible for managing BR-163/230, one of the main corridors for grain transport between Mato Grosso and the Arco-Norte ports, is joining Óleo Solidário, a social and environmental impact campaign to collect used cooking oil, which was initially conceived and developed at Conasa Águas de Itapema.

The initiative is being launched on World Water Day as an action aimed at preserving water resources. Each liter of oil disposed of incorrectly can contaminate 25,000 liters of water.

The collection will take place among the company’s employees, with collection points at the concessionaire’s work fronts to encourage the correct disposal of the material.

The oil collected will be delivered to the SinopÓleo company in Sinop (MT), which reuses the material. For every liter collected, the company will donate one real to social institutions operating in the concession region. In this way, what was once an environmental problem becomes an action with a positive social impact.

The campaign at Conasa Águas de Itapema

Meanwhile, at Conasa Águas de Itapema, Óleo Solidário is developed as a project involving municipal school students. In 2023, the project encouraged the donation of used oil among ninth graders from municipal schools through competition games.

A monthly ranking was created, rewarding the class for collecting the most material. In four months, 905 liters of oil were donated, and the amount collected was passed on to the local APAE. The school of the winning class won a computer for academic use.

The initiative is in partnership with Facci (Itapema Coastal Area Environmental Foundation), Rotary Club Itapema Costa Verdes Mares, the Municipal Department of Education, and APAE Itapema and will be held again in 2024.
