Conasa Águas in Itapema presented details of the investment in a meeting with neighborhood association representatives.

The announcement of the expansion of the sewage collection system to the neighborhoods of Praia Mar and Morretes brought optimism and motivation to residents from these areas. Last week, members of the Jardim Praia Mar Residents Association met with the Conasa Águas of Itapema team to know more details about investments in the neighborhood and the benefits that the collection and treatment will bring to the environment and people’s quality of life.

“By clearing the air, basic sanitation has direct impact on public health improvement and brings fundamental economic and social benefits to the cities. Expansion works started at Jardim da Praia in March and progressed towards Morretes. In 12 months, we will conclude 37 km of the collection system. And, as soon as homes are connected to the system, Itapema will have 90%% of its sewage treated and will be among the Brazilian cities with the highest index of sewage collection and treatment coverage in the country”, stated Eduardo Vergutz, CONASA Águas of Itapema superintendent.

For the Vice-President of the Jardim Praia Mar Residents Association, Jaqueline Pacheco, the inconveniences caused by the work will be overcome by the optimism of the whole community towards the results and improvements in the quality of life of the residents. “The neighborhood suffers from strong rains and the influence of the tide. When this happens, septic tanks overflow and houses are flooded. We are very happy with this achievement and we should celebrate”, she stresses.

Partnership with the community

Conasa Águas of Itapema has also announced a partnership with the community of Jardim Praia Mar for the implementation of the Praia Verde Community Vegetable Garden Project. The Company will prepare a lot on Rua 466, donated by Norma Ceratti, to plant seedlings. “We submitted the project to Conasa and the company decided, immediately, to collaborate and help this dream come true”, says Jaqueline Pacheco.

The vegetable garden initiative, which was already mentioned in the Bem-Estar program of Rede Globo, counts on the collaboration of more than 100 people who are composting at home with the help of trainees from Univali (Universidade do Vale do Itajaí) Agronomic Engineering and Nutrition courses. These trainees will also provide support to the expansion of the project. All gardens will receive organic fertilizer.
